The Indonesian Students Association in Arnhem-Nijmegen (PPI-AN) proudly presents the Indonesian Student Culture Day (ICD) 2006: Our Children Our Future. We invite you to participate in this event, where you can find a blend of Indonesian culture in traditional dance performances, drama, food festival and live music.
The fund raised in this event will be donated to the children in need in various locations in Indonesia. PPI-AN is cooperating with Yayasan Tunas Cendekia, a foundation we have been working with since the successful ICD 2005. In this website you will find information about the programme, how to participate, guide to go to the location, and links to our partners.
Our Children, Our Future Children are believed to be a huge asset for the future. This exact saying can be heard said in any parts of the world, which includes Indonesia. It is often said in Indonesia that children will grow to be the leaders of the next generation so attentions need to be given more. What happens actually to those who are less fortunate? How will we ensure that they receive proper education they deserve and be certain that they will have the same opportunity with the rest of the children that are more fortunate?
The number of street children across the country is unknown. Komnas PA estimated 50,000 nationwide; while a 2002 Family Health International study estimated the number at nearly 71,000. This is a huge number and when you consider it, is a large percentage of the children who will loss the potential to run the country in the future.
In order to answer our growing concern we, as Indonesian Students Association in Arnhem-Nijmegen (ISA-AN) or Persatuan Pelajar Indonesia Arnhem-Nijmegen (PPI-AN), have decided that this issue should be what our cause is for holding this event. We want to donate a certain amount of the money we raise from this event to send back to an organization in Indonesia, which will then ensure that the money will be given directly to those in need.
